This link has a little info: http://orion.math.iastate.edu/jdhsmith/term/sluscil.htm
The Monon converted to diesel in 1949 according to one site that I read. So most of the steam action would have been before that date.

Rambytes, thanks for the link. Yes the Monon converted early. I have a good site with their diesel roster. I watched the Monon when I was growing up in in Indiana. Also the IHB. Both ran through town and near my house. I am debating whether I want a Monon steam engine on my layout.
Thanks again,
Ken

Try backissues of the R&LHS magazine (best place to look is www.railpub.com). They've run at least one road engine roster per mag for the past 70 years! I've got their issues with the NKP, W&LE, IC, GM&O, Alton, C&IM, and P&PU rosters, and they're fantastic (so good that the above road's historical societies use the R&LHS rosters, rather than cranking out their own!)

Hello Ken,
There's a roster and brief history of Monon steam locomotives in the book, "Guide to North American Steam Locomotives," compiled by George Drury. This book, published by Kalmbach, includes 20th-century steam rosters for all major railroads in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It's available in hobby shops and in the shopping section of this Web site.
For more detail, see the book, "Monon, The Hoosier Line," by Dolzall and Dolzall, second revised edition published by Indiana University Press in 2002. It includes a roster listing individual Monon steam engines as of May 1, 1946, and their eventual retirement dates.
So long,
Andy

Ken,
The Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society appears to have a complete roster of both steam and diesel.
And upon further review I see it is credited to "Monon: The Hoosier Line" by Gary and Stephen Dolzall, the print version that Andy pointed you to.

Thanks for the link! The one I had showed only the diesel roster. Where are you in Indiana? I lived in Munster. Thanks again.

There seems to be a lot of good info on that site. If your considering modeling the Monon, the already noted book is a nice reference, if a little pricey at ~$50. I currently live in West Lafayette, not too far from the location of the old Monon Shops.

May not be a lot of help but you could try doing a search on the "Indiana Trasportation Museum" in Forest Park, Noblesville, IN.
They have NKP No. 587 there (a Mikado) that is just finishing up being refurbed for at least the second time (awesome to see under power), along with some other steam that doesn't run.
They also have several Monon F3's, so they might be able to help in a Monon roster as they are interested in that road.
