It was evidence of a inspection for the presence of a series of straight plate 33" wheels that were subject to fracture and had led to several bad derailments (a bad design). Cars that were inspected and did NOT have those wheels got the black square with a yellow dot. Cars that were inspected and DID have those wheels had a black square with a white dot. Cars with 36" wheels were not subject to the inspection but sometimes had the "all clear" black with yellow dot sticker anyway.

If your talking about the black square and yellow dot, this refers to cars that rode on 33 inch wheels

Can someone tell me the specifics of the black square - yellow/white dot "stickers" were for ??? I know they had something to do with AAR inspections, but I would like to know what exactly the inspection pertained to AND the time frame these "stickers" were used. Thanks for ANY info.

Mark.
