one incident of sheer gall and stupidity i remember of a motorist disreagrding safety and common sense at railroad crossings occurred while i was working for the Leelanau Scenic Railroad in Spring 1989. We were near spot south of Suttons Bay called Bingham with the line's SW9, bay window caboose and two flatcars loaded with new crossties. nearing the crossing i got off and began flagging traffic to a stop. All of a sudden coming up behind from the 5 or so parked trucks and cars was a fast approaching camaro. that car sped across the crossing as the train was only about 60 feet away and came literally winhin only a few inches from clipping me. the bozo must have been doing at least 65 in a 35 MPH speed zone.
