B&O hopper numbers
Posted by jimrice4449 on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 12:11 PM
I posted this Sunday night but it vanished overnight so I'll try again. I'm decaling a bunch of B&O 50/55 ton two bay hoppers and I need help in determining a valid number series for each type. They are Athearn offset side and Accurail rib side. I checked my copy of the Car Register thinking I could dope it out by differences in cubic capacity, but there are too many minor variations in dimensions to figure it out (One would assume the offset side cars would have a slightly larger cubic capacity but the cu.ft figures are all over the landscape in the 2000 nieghborhood)

It didn't disappear; it's just on page 2 of the General Discussions forum. I posted a bunch of B&O number series for you there:

Thanks Ray. This computer stuff still baffles me but even with my limited capabilities it's a gold mine!

I would suggest checking the B&O Color Guide for accurate number series. What Ray posted was what the models have come out with and that does not always reflect what the actual numbers were.

Nope: the numbers I quoted were straight from the ORERs, NOT from model RR manufacturers.
