UP 3985's reserve tenders?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 10:00 PM
Anyone know the history of the two reserve tenders that follow UP 3985 on trips? Are they old tenders from retired steam locos?

Thanks, RW

I think they were taken from the gas turbines. On the other hand the gas turbines might have taken them from retired steam locomotives.

Thanks you for the info. I looked at a dealers site that sells Overland Models Brass and they list them as water tenders and look like the gas turbine's tenders.

Again, thanks [:)]

I believe that that is what they are used for today, even though that's not how they started life. Water.

Sometimes dealers list things funny. Were they being sold seperately, as an add on to a recent model of 3985?
