UP E6 Questions
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 18, 2005 6:53 PM
I am thinking about adding some P2K E6's to my UP roster and retire my Athearn F7's. I have a couple questions relating to being somewhat prototypical.

When did UP retire/scrap their E6's?

When did UP start painting the hood non-skid green on the E6's?

Anyone have any ideas? I am modeling 1959/1960, so I'd like to at least be close to correct.

According to "The Union Pacific Diesel Vol1" by Cinthia Priest, the E6 units were traded to EMD and rebuilt as E9s in 1956. Late photographs (1954) in the book show green nose anti-glare panels. They had, however lost their as built side panels and all the carbody windows in favour of air filter panels.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I may rethink and switch to E9's. But I sure like that slant nose on the E6!
