Logging
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 2:26 PM
I am starting an HO layout to depict early 1900’s logging in the Adirondack Mtn. I am having problems finding people and implements to use in the forest and camp areas. Does anyone know of an outlet/store that would carry what I’m looking for?

Hi DougABC.

Welcome to the forum & I'm glad to see another Adirondack logging modeler in the era I'm interested in.

My logging empire is in N scale and figures & tools are scarce, but I think you will have a better selection. Do a search at the walthers.com website for HO figures. I'd suggest looking at some of the Farm figures by Prieser and others. Lots of horses were used up here in the mountains. Barnhart loaders were used extensively in the logging cars and I believe there is an HO model available.

Keystone products makes a set of HO logging tools that will keep your little plastic loggers busy.. The set includes an axe, a saw, pikes & peaveys.

Email me if you need prototype info. or have some to share. I've been doing some basic research into logging around the Cranberry Lake area by Rich Brothers & Emporium Lumber.

Also check out Evergreen Hill designs for logging tools. Preiser, Evergreen and Keystone are available through the Walthers catalog.
Another web site to check out is yahoo 4L group as its for railroad logging enthusiates (sp?). 4L is for Loyal Legion of Logged on Loggers. Thoses guys will help you find the stuff that was for your area and era.
