Hoping in my lifetime...
Posted by tstage on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 8:40 PM

The following link was posted in the NYCSHS Groups.io forum earlier today on the announcement about the purchase of and intended restoration of NYC L-3a 4-8-2 Mohawk #3001 by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society (FWRHS):

https://railfan.com/new-york-central-4-8-2-mohawk-to-be-restored-to-operation

This would accompany the seven Empire State Express (ESE) Budd cars purchased by FWRHS from the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum in 2023.

First, the restoration and reopening of the Michigan Central train station in Detriot...now this.  It would be dream-come-true for any NYC fan and/or steam fan.  I just hope I live long enough to see it come to fruition.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.

Seeing 3001 in action would certainly be worth the wait, Tom,.

IMO, It's  a pity that at least one of their iconic Moguls hadn't been preserved, but I guess that a Railroad that had the arrogance (??)  to go against the grain and call a Mountain, a Mohawk, was a pretty hard-nosed outfit who knew what they were doing!

My one cents worth. Cheers,  the Bear. Smile

Well, when a RR buys 600 of these beasts, it can pick whatever name it wants Smile
