Hi,
I'm looking for dates for when the following northeast railroads ceased steam operations: Lehigh Valley, Lehigh & New England, Lehigh & Hudson River, Reading, Deleware & Hudson, Delaware Lackawanna & Western and Jersey Central. I was hoping that there might be a chart that shows all the railroads and dates for such things as last mainline revenue or passenger train, last steam usage (mainline or switching), and maybe last steam engine departing the property (one that might've been kept in reserve)
Thanks

This should be helpful as a starter.

Thanks, Rich. this is agood starting point.
I used to live across the street from the Boston & Maine's Fitchburg Line. By that time, the freight was handled by diesel but the line was transitioning to commuter rail.
One day I was home and I heard a steam whistle. I watched as a small steamer and a few coaches went by. With great presence of mind, I called the railroad and asked to speak to the dispatcher. He was happy to talk with me. It was a train that had been chartered for a wedding. He also let me know when it was coming back, so I was waiting trackside for it to return.
This was in Concord, MA, in 1973. I'll try to get that picture.
