Peobably a simple one for my Forum friends but here goes. I have an RS-1 that was a B&O unit that I am relettering for one of my protolanced roads. What I'm looking for is: Did the B&O run them short hood or long hood forward? I know there were some roads that would have some hood units (GN for example) that were run ling hood forward. Thank you as usual for any assistance that can be provided.
The pictures I could find of B&O RS1's on line did not show an "F" on the short hood end of the frame. They also seemed to have the engineer on the right side of the engien when looking at the short hood end of the engine. That leads me to believe that the long hood was the front.

If you go to the fallen flags web page https://www.rr-fallenflags.org there is photo of #9185 showing a "F" on the long hood end of the sill.

Assuming that the model you have was accurately lettered originally, there should be a small "F" on the frame at one end. That would indicate the front of the loco.

The default configuration frim ALCO for an RS-1 was the long hood forward, but a few roads did order them short hood forward.
Yes, B&O units were long hood forward.
