I would have guessed it to be a livestock car for either hogs or sheep.

It would be much easier to tell if we could read the reporting marks.

It looks like a HOGX stock car.  They were built in 1989 from old MP boxcars to serve Farmer John brand pork products, hauling hogs from Nebraska to California by the UP.  They were the last stock cars built in the US.  The service stopped in 1995.
