IIRC the actual beer ad jingle was "when you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer."

That is correct.

I had a professor that said that was one of the worst ad slogans ever. He suggested it implied that first you drank all the good beer, Miller, Bud, Rolling Rock, Coors... and then when all that was gone... you drank the Schlitz... then you were out of beer.

Back when I was in O scale (1970s - 1980s) I remember that Walthers made an O scale 'beer can' tank car kit where the tank body was an actual empty beer can (supplied by the modeller).

p.s. IIRC the actual beer ad jingle was "when you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer."

There was another fake / comic ad about that time - can't remember if it was Cheech & Chong or National Lampoon Radio Hour - that played on the "Wheaties Breakfast of Champions"  slogan. Apparently it was popular enough that some buttons were made up for it:

When you're out of beer, tough Schlitz.

Actually, that was a fake ad from a Cheech and Chong album in the early seventies.

As far as Pabst, they certainly operated quite a few wood reefers, so it would seem logical that in more modern times they used insulated "beer car" boxcars. But as noted, it can be hard to find real pics. Also, apparently a lot of model railroaders like beer, so many fanciful beer reefers have been offered for sale over the years, many not related to a real car but more just a model railroad collectible.

  Stixx.

Your memory seems to be a lot better than mine. Thank you.

I think it was either the Old and Weary or Greenway products that had quite a selection of beer cars.

That was an add slogan back in the day.

I couldn't find any photos of real ones, but there were quite a few model ones, as seen HERE

I just bought an N scale Pabst Blue Ribbon box car. Was there really a Pabst box car out there in the real world.  I saw some Miller, Hamms, and Coors cars but can't find any pics of a Pabst car. Looking for some weathering idea pics.  Thanks
