Dimensions of Standard Type "E" Freight Car Coupler
Posted by staybolt on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 2:20 PM

Does anyone have subject dimensions, or know where I might find them? I've made a cursory attempt on U.S. Patent Office site w/o success (probably have to have experience to use that source!)

This should get you started:

Scans can be downloaded from Flickr if you prefer.

Get me started and finished....terrific, Ed....thanks! I want to check scale size on some new (to me) Accurail couplers. A fellow modeler's experience with them persuaded me to give them a try.

I notice AAR catalogs are referenced in the drawing. Are those on AAR's website? I looked, but don't see them.

I haven't browsed AAR's site much so can't say for sure. I do have an AAR standards book that I'll check later. It's about a foot thick!

The scans I sent came from the 1970 Car Builder's Cyclopedia.

From my 1957 AAR Book:

Be sure to memorize all these dimensions! There will be a test.

Ok...thanks for additional drawings....as for your test warning, if I had to memorize all the dimensions I wouldn't have time for any modeling....ha!
