In honour of Canada's efforts to reconcile with our Indigenous population, many of whom were killed or irreparably harmed by our Residential School System, Canadian Pacific has painted one of their locomotives bright orange. The orange colour symbolizes the deprivation that thousands of Indigenous children suffered when they were taken from their families and forced to attend the Residential Schools. One young girl wore an orange T shirt on the first day that she was taken to her school. The Nuns promptly took it away from her and it was never returned. In fact, the schools attempted to remove anything related to Indigenous culture including their languages.
Congratulations to Canadian Pacific for supporting the cause.
