This isn't going to answer your question but back in the mid 50swhen I was a kid next to the Lionel Santa Fe f units the next most popular that all the kids wanted were the Texas Special f units.

 

 

I was one of the kids of the 50's that was lucky enough to have the Texas Special train set.  Wish I still had it, but in the 80's I tradeded it at a hobby shop in Greensboro, NC for N scale trains for my son's layout.  Would love to get it back.

     More replies might be forthcoming if some parameters for them were established.  The Texas Special went through a number of iterations and knowing what era you are interested in would assist those capable of responding.

You don't say how much information you've already found on your own, or what you want to do with the information.

Googling "Katy Texas Special" produces too many photos and pages to list separately.
