Thanks for the information.  I had anticipated that info would be pretty sparse.  Not sure if I want to go forward with trying to build it, but at least with a known dimension I can make reasonable guesses.

It would appear that information on 2-2-4T “Transit” is as scarce as hens’ teeth!! It doesn’t seem to even get a mention in the D & H Historical Society website rosters, though neither does the 4-4-0 inspection locomotive “Saratoga”.

The only dimension which I’ve managed to find which would be of any use to a scratch builder is from Jim Shaughnessy’s “Delaware & Hudson” book and that is that the driving wheel circumference of 54 inches. However, the information also indicates that the “Transit” was rebuilt in 1922, and given a 56 inch driving wheel. It also gives the disposal date of 9 September 1933.

I would suggest that the two photos that you have got, are of the original build “Transit”, and from a scratch builders’ perspective, you have huge advantage of having a view of both sides and ends!

The window pitch is wrong but I’m wondering if the Roundhouse 34’ Old time Overton Coach would be the basis for a build for the body?

Just to muddy the waters, are you particularly “stuck” on the “Transit”? I only say this because if your interest is in having an unusual inspection locomotive, and while it may not be so "sexy" (?), may I suggest the Le High Valley RR 4-2-4T “Dorothy”, no shortage of information on her.

Hopefully someone will come up with more useful information,
Cheers, the Bear.Smile

Does anyone know where I can find more information about the Delaware & Hudson inspection locomotive #350?  So far I've found this page, which lists the build date and number: http://alcohistory.blogspot.com/2007/06/delaware-and-hudson-350-transit.html

Any more information would be appreciated, but especially dimensional info and paint colors.
