EMD BL2 Dynamic Brakes ?
Posted by mvlandsw on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 7:55 PM

Were any BL2's equipped with dynamic brakes? If so where were the grids and associated cooling fan located?

The Proto 2000 model has what appear to be sockets for the field loop connections on the MU stand. It has has the four radiator cooling fans on the roof but no DB fan.

Pictures of prototype Western Maryland BL's show this type of MU stand. Later pictures show the field loop socket blanked out.

Thanks for any information,

I'm pretty sure no BL-2's had dynamic braking. The WM units did have MU capabilities though.

I've never seen evidence of a BL2 having dynamic brakes, nor have I seen evidence that dynamic brakes were even offered as an option.

Dynamic brakes would have been a rather tight fit into an already crowded space under the hood, especially adapting the then-current design used on F3s.
