Working on a fictional atomic locomotive, based off the 3 unit turbine concept, an A unit leading, a steam turbine, a reactor on span bolster trucks and a condenser bank behind. I finished the reactor with a concrete and will weather it soon, but right now Id like some input on the red frames on the reactor. What would be a good color for a unit like this under test runs? A dark yellow or orange? Or maybe a simple aluminum or dull gray?

My immediate thought was, "Wow, I wonder if it looks anything like the O scale "Atomic Locomotive" in "Trackside Photos" in MR, way back when?"  I haven't come across it yet, but I'm only up to 1953 in my refurbished MR bound volumes. The 1954 and '55 volumes are with the book restorer right now and the later ones are too fragile to go through them.  (I've been wanting to get this portion of my "Paper Time Machine" repaired and re-bound for years, but only recently had the wherewithal [read: $$$$!] to have it done and luckily I found a local artisan who made my old friends well again.)  BTW, that photo was in B&W, but I had the impression the big loco was painted either silver & black or gray & black.  Anyone else remember the photo?

I beleive the OP has posted pictures of this train before.  I haven't gone back to look.

I think it needs to be a dull aluminum or stainless, with some stripping, along with the proper placards, labeling, etc.

I was thinking more along the lines of nuclear fuel/flask/waste canister livery, which scanning several dozen images on line in general looks to be either white or light/medium grey, maybe a stripe, often a number and company name, and NOT a whole lot else to call unwanted attention to itself.
Images from the early 1960s seem to be about the same, except in black & white.

While in our timeline the 1950s & early 1960s were somewhat nuclear happy, it still wasn't on the "Fall Out 4" retro universe level...well, mostly it wasn't.

You have to have your pictures in a photo hosting site, or your own blog, and follow the "Sticky Note" on how to post, the top post in the General Discussion forum.
