Refrigerator car center sills
Posted by biomedlives on Saturday, January 18, 2020 4:05 PM

I have an Ambroid kit for an REA express reefer and one for an ACL "watermelon car."  The cross section of the center sill for the REA reefer is U-shaped, and the sill for the watermelon car is T-shaped.    From the diagrams in the instructions, it's not clear to me which side of the sill should be next to the car floor in each case.  I'd appreciate advice.  Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.  Your initial posts are moderated and there is a delay before they appear.  When they do, they appear back in time so maybe it got overlooked.

I know we have Ambroid fans here.  I have never built one but I looked at the literature at HOSeeker.net.  Direct links to a specific page don't work, but in the Reefer section, there are pictures of the center sill.

If it's a T, the top of the T faces the track.  If it's a U the open part of the U faces the track.

If someone knows differently, speak up.
