industries in Georgia.

.

Cotton, Peanuts, Peaches, Pecans, Carpets, Wood Flooring. Pallettes, Telephone Poles, Dimensional Lumber, Plywood, Processed Poultry, and Warehousing/Distribution just to get you started.

.

The Port Of Savannah generates all kind of industrial traffic.

.

Film Making and Tourism are also big, but these industries will not produce any haulage.

Pretty much everything is either shipped or recieved if you are looking at an entire state.

One of the biggest destinations for coal is in Georgia.

Most Kaolin Clay in the USA is mined in Georgia.  Sometimes shipped in covered hoppers as a dry powder, but mainly shipped as a slurry in long cuts of shorty tank cars.

Old economic info stated in the articles but kaolin is still a major industry in GA. Can't find current stats or stats on haulage.

.

I once drove from Athens to Elberton on some back roads by the Kaolin Mines because I wanted to get a look at some of the equipment.

.

My dark blue rental car was completely white in just a few miles.

.

Kaolin is amazing stuff. It sticks to everything.

.

Speaking of Elberton, GA, some of the finest Granite in the world is quarried near there. I dont know if any of it is shipped by rail, but I have seen some huge slabs on flatbed trailers in the area.
