Does anyone know of a good (preferably online) source of prototype photos of old wooden Heinz refrigerator cars?  I seem to remember reading soomewhere of a book that covered them but can't remember the title.  I thought it had something to do with great white fleet but a search of that only turns up info on the turn of the century white US naval fleet.

Thanks.

May I suggest the Clover House (Post Office Box 215, Veradale, WA, 99037-0215) dry transfer catalog?  They have an incredible collection of transfers, often in several scales, lots of unusual stuff you won't find elsewhere--such as 11 sets for Heinz old time cars!  I have a file box full of pre WWI beauties.  Anyone looking for something unusual--and authentic (they're scaled from photos and include car side sizes and body color)--should have their catalog on file!

There is a book called The Great Yellow Fleet and it is written by John H. White . There is one photo and one drawing of a Heinz refrigerator car in that book.

[edit] If you go to the Brass Trains site there is a photo of the page with the Heinz car showing:

I found these at the Historic Pittsburgh site:

And, why not a look at Pickle Car 103?

Hope that helps.

I often visit the Barriger Library at Flickr and I just went through 44 pages of cars from AC&F but didn't see any Heinz cars. If I come across others I'll update my reply.

Good Luck, Ed
