It seems I'm always late to these discussions. For what it's worth, the Ohio Central has a branchline from Newark, OH to Mt. Vernon, OH. It parallels Ohio Route 13 throught the towns of Vanatta and St. Louisville. There are several places were the tracks are between Rt. 13 and homes and the driveways have to cross the tracks. Only one train a day goes up and down that line and it is a slow order track so there's not much of a hazard. I think if you lived in one of those houses, you would be used to checking for a train before you cross the tracks.

I am not sure where they came from as it was a long time ago, but I think a friend of my wife Emailed them to her when we were house hunting saying it would be a perfect house for me. There is a link to railpictures above in a previous post if anyone wants a look see.
I prefer to post a link pointing to the source, except for the pictures that I took myself. Perhaps Brent could post the link in his initial post, as the thread itself is worth keeping. Made me laugh quite a bit!

The troll has not even taken the trouble to make his claim believable. The date of 1986 is probably correct, as posted. He could not have taken it in 1983 since in that year the locomotive still carried its original number, 7027.

Is John losing money by having his photo seen elsewhere or does he just want his pat on the back? Regardless, I will respect his concerns.
I suggest looking up the "Fair Use" clause in the copyright laws.

BATMANI have seen this photo in a bunch of places. Not wanting to step on any toes I have deleted it from my files so it won't happen again. I see photos I have taken personally all over the place, I have no idea how they make their way around the internet nor do I care.
I think it's nearly impossible to protect photos on the internet. I imagine that if I was serious about it, I would put some kind of watermark on the photo like some art sites do.
I only posted my comment because I found it interesting that the two different individuals both claim copyrights.
I also find it interesting that certain railroading sites provide copyrighted photos, but provide BB copy codes so the image can be copied and used on other posting sites.

It would appear the railway crossing crossbuck is there because that is where the rail line stops running down the middle of the street - presumably allowing cars to run on either side of it - to cross the one lane of traffic when taking the curve. The "driveway" referenced is very narrow, more likely a sidewalk from the street to the front porch of the house.
I lived for my first 46 years in a house in Richfield MN that was almost that close to a rail line; it was across the street so roughly where the sidewalk on the left of the second picture would be. However there were no houses on the other side; it was a farm and then the athletic field for Holy Angels High School (if there's any Larry Fitzgerald Jr. fans out there).
Anyway, except for having a couple hundred books on railroad history, memberships in a half dozen railroad historical societies, a basement full of almost 50 years worth of model railroading buying and building, and a grandkid who calls me "Papa Choo-Choo", I can't say living by the train tracks all those years affected me at all....

rrinkerNot sure what I'm looking at. It's a driveway, considered a private crossing, not a public one, so nothing more than a railroad crossing sign is really needed.
Randy: The train came along one street, went around a curve beside that house, and up Ritson road.
When the railline was put in Ritson was two lanes, when the street was expanded to four lanes if occupied the rail line, but both were used for years.
angelob6660Are the tracks and the neighborhood still there? A lot can change in 32 years. I wouldn't mind moving to Canada to live there and watch the local.
That was the route that served the Oshawa, Ont GM fabrication plant. I was working there when a new owner decided he would not pay the tax to keep the track in place. CN removed the track, that owner went bankrupt, two other owners failed, and the pland closed six years later.
The track is gone, the GM plant is gone, twenty feet down for cleaning, and the area is now retail operations, including Costco. A coiple of lumber yards north of the GM plant lost their rail connection, and part of the route is now a paved walking/bike path.
