Video railfan wars
Posted by BigDaddy on Friday, August 31, 2018 6:29 PM

I watch a couple Youtube channels.  Virtual Railfan and Railstream.  Both are paid services, but they also have free streaming.  I'm not interested in paying. Big Smile

A lot of cameras aren't that great, acute angles looking at the train, a limited field of view.  Now I realize it costs money to do this and you can't just build a camera platform anywhere.  Some places have very little rail traffic.

The same sites would cycle as free each week.

Of late they have been stepping up their game.  Soem of the free sites have moveable cameras or a choice of east or west views.  This is VR's Belen NM camera.

There is a lot of yard detail to see, when they pan the camera.

I'm in the habit of opening the Railstream for Chesterton, IN, putting it in the background while I work, and switching over to watch the train go by when I hear it.  I find it has a decent variety of pretty frequent trains.
