They don't.

They have a completely different drive system.  They control the speed of the diesel engine that creates the electricity, in the model we control the electricity going to the actual "traction motor".

A question in the electronic forum about speed matching locomotives leads me to ask since the prototypes MU all the time how do they speed match?
