I want to use a tamiya spray for a chessie yellow hopper. Any idea which one approximates the proper shade of yellow?
I don't model Chessie, but I do model the B&O/C&O in the period immediately before the 1972 merger with the deep, "peach" yellow lettering and sill stripes.
Nothing straight from the can/jar works for me; I custom-blend my own for my airbrush. I start with some Tamiya X-8 Lemon Yellow, then mix-in some X-26 Clear Orange - adding a teensy bit at a time until I get the shade of yellow that I think looks close enough.

Like Ken, I prefer to mix my own colours to better-match (in my opinion) the colour of a particular prototype.
We can suggest out-of-the-bottle colours all day, and probably combinations of colours for an even closer match, but it has to look right to your eyes, and under your lighting conditions on your layout.
