The CMR lift bridge would be ideal for this purpose.

Actually the bridge looks like it is in very sound condition.

Better than say, an NYCT el.

Thanks for posting that interesting story and photos, LION.

I would want to make sure the cables holding the counterweights were not too corroded before walking under them. Ouch!

Might maker an interesting model. It really doesn't have to work, this one was lifted only once when they built it. No trains have ever run across it either. GN wanted a new more southerly route and started here at the bridge and tunnel. But then the Army Corps of Engineers went and flooded the valley creting Lake Sakakawea.
