Your question would be a whole lot easier to answer if you could have gotten the crew to get the heck out of the way while you took the picture! [}:)]
But seriously, you've probably already figured out that it's a wood burning (note the wood stacked on the tender) steam locomotive. It's probably a 4-4-0 American - THE most common power then - although it could have been a 2-6-0 Mogul or a 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler. I don't think the proportions are quite right for a Mogul or Ten Wheeler though.
The number 3 on the smoke box door might help a CP fan better identify this engine.

Grandmother sent me this picture of her grandfathers half brother (he is the short guy in the dark suit) I would like to know what type of loco this is. I know that he worked for the canadien Pacific and that he was crippled in an accident and changed careers, he was a signalman when he worked for the railway and after his accident he became a drayman. He is listed in the 1910 census as a drayman so the photo is pre 1910. any help would be greatly appreciated. I have posted this message on some of the other forums, however there is a lot more traffic here. Hope one of you guy's knows something. Thanks
