Yup, "Uncle Pete" got fed with C&NW and in 1955 shifted UP's Chicago trains to the Milwaukee Road. (UP only went as far east as the Missouri River, so needed someone else to carry it's trains from Omaha to Chicago.)

One of the requirements of the contract was that the Milwaukee had to make available a certain no. of cars to be used in the UP's transcontinental trains, and any engines, cars etc. Milwaukee used in UP trains had to painted to match the UP's yellow and gray paint scheme. For a while the Milwaukee continued to use it's traditional maroon-and-orange on other trains (like the Hiawatha between Mpls-St.Paul and Chicago) but sometime around 1960 decided to just repaint all it's passenger equipment into UP colors.

The reason the Milwakuee did this was that in the twilight years of intercity rail service on the private railroads, they held the contract to connect the Union Pacific trains from back west into Chicago. So the UP colors on a Milwakuee unit matched the colors of the UP train they were hauling into the city. Prior to the Milwakuee, the Chicago Northwestern held the contract and they also had Armour Yellow painted units. Back west at Ogden for a time the Southern Pacific had Armour Yellow units too for use on the City of San Fransico. The City of San Francisco units were interesting in that while they were painted yellow, some of them had heralds for both the UP, CNW, and SP on the nose (for example this one: https://kellistanley.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/City-of-San-Francisco.jpg )

Thanks. I have seen a pic of a unit in those colors in Upper MI pulling a string of iron ore cars. Doesn't look like an E unit , and I couldn't find any info. by its number (102C).

"102C FP7A 15-EP 1500 11/51 15236 259,000 EMD 02/77 08/77 To PNC,scrapped"

from http://www.trainweb.org/milwaukee/roster.txt

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Milwaukee painted some or all of their passenger diesels in the Union Pacific scheme for awhile.  And the colors were the same as for UP.

My impression is that they didn't paint any F7A's in that scheme.  They did paint FP7's and F7B's in it, though.

Here are HO decals for the sceme on the E units:

You could use the sheet to do them, I think.

Athearn has sold models of the Milwaukee FP7's and F7B's in this scheme.

I've seen photos of MILW F7 units in a yellow scheme with red lettering. I am assuming these had something to do with the Union Pacific, as the color looks the same. I want to model one of these so do I use the same yellow as the UP used?
