UK Prototype Info for Thomas the Tank Engine
Posted by spe3376 on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 1:46 PM

Hello, All:

First, a little background...a few years ago, my son was gifted some Bachmann HO scale Thomas & Friends trains, which he quickly outgrew and stopped running.  In a matter of months now, he'll be turning 11, and the other day, he dug them out and asked me if I could help him "make these trains more realistic."  Turns out he had been watching some videos on YouTube on UK railroading and he'd like to work with me on building a UK prototype model railway.  Cool.  I think it would be a great way for him to try to build his own modeling skills by modifying the several pieces of rolling stock and engines.  The on-line videos are great, but we can't seem to find a good reference site that would help identify the prototypes that the Thomas characters are based on.

Does anyone have any suggestions that we could use to check out and find out prototype information?  Are there any good US based sources for UK prototype detail parts?

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Sounds like  neat project!  Here's a Wiki link that should help you figure it all out.

Good luck, and have fun!
