I stand corrected. The car does have a BLT date which is 1927... This means to me that it was probably used for about twenty years or up until the late 40s or early 50s after which milk was hauled by tanker truck like it is now.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

I dunno, I type dairymen's league in Google and the very first hit is this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dairylea_Cooperative_Inc.

(although what IDIOT included the . after Inc as part of the URL I'll never know. Good old Wikipedia editor.... )

Hi,

I've got one as well.  Given the trucks and wood sheathing and being an ice reefer, I would say it was used in the 20s thru 40s, possibly the early '50s.

ENJOY  !

Dairyman's Milk Refer Question...
Posted by marksrailroad on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 5:01 AM

I apologize for being a pest with my questions about the milk refers lately but can someone please tell me what time period that Dairyman's League milk refers operated?. I tried looking it up on the web but about all I could find was the Lionel refer car info and/or photos but none of an actual car. The reason for my interest in it is because I recently purchased one and would like to know if I'm correct in using it on trains of the transition era. The problem is that there's no BUILT or NEW date on the car which would help a lot to determine its era...
