BigJim

Some photos would be very helpful.

They're very easy to find online.  If you want to.  I wanted to, so I did.

I don't know how to post a photo on this site BUT the BLI website shows photos of their Y6b loco's front handrails. I have NEVER seen photos of the "real thing" with handrails like that...the real thing ain't got "brackets" holding the railings together...and note the location of the builder's plates. I know I'm "nit-picking", but why did they go through all that trouble to make it WRONG...?

By the way, has anybody tried to REMOVE the so-called "brackets" on the front handrails, using a Dremmel or something? Also, does anybody make proper decals for the builder's plates, if I decide to relocate them?

PCM/BLI Y6B Details?
Posted by wobblinwheel on Thursday, November 30, 2017 1:41 PM

I have an "old" Precision-Craft Models (now Broadway-Limited) N&W Y6b locomotive. After viewing a bunch of videos and photos of many of the Y6's, I've noticed this model has some unusual (incorrect) features: 1. there seems to be some "brackets" holding the cross-arms and other sections of the front pilot handrails together. These details don't seem to exist on the "real thing" as far as I can tell. 2. the builder's plates on the sides of the smokebox are in the wrong place? They appear to be too far back (rearward), according to the photos I,ve seen. The front handrailings on the prototypes all seem to be smoothly welded together, with no form of "brackets" involved, and all of the (visible) builders plates are mounted much closer to the front of the smokebox! I also notice BLI is still making them that way! Are these "details" truly incorrect, and nobody cares, or do they know something I don't? I hve two other models of the N&W Y's (Proto 2000 Y3, and an old Rivarossi Y6b) that appear to be "correct"....Who's right...?? Where do you suppose they came up with the idea for those brackets, anyway? They sure are "busy" sticking out there like that...!
