Okay, never mind. I just discovered there were two different support rod types that came with the kit. That makes sense because the kit came with two types of hatches: A pre-'40 type (Type A) & a post-'40 type (Type B). The Type B support rod is angled a bit more so it fits in the notch like its supposed to. The diagram only shows the Type A support rod. That is what is pitched in the photo above.

I'm working on a Branchline wood reefer kit. I'm installing the hatches and have a question about the support rod placement.
I will be modeling the reefer with the hatches closed. The assembly instructions have a diagram but it's somewhat nebulous. When the support rod is not supporting the hatch, is this correct orientation of it? [Click photo to enlarge]
The curved portion appears to fit in a small notch that I presume is hinged on the prototype. To keep it in the notch the above is as far forward as I can rotate it. Would this be correct?
