Virtually everything cited so far has good coverage of passenger traffic and cars in the transition era on the Rio Grande.

Aside from Jim Eagers Rio Grande Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipement, which I own and highly recommend, there is also Rio Grande Diesels Vol 3, (I also own) which has a pretty extensive chapter on passenger equipment.

Here's a great source for links to photos of passenger cars (including DRGW):

Jim Eager included a pretty extensive section (pages 21-27) of pics of heavyweight cars in his "Rio Grande Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment" (Morning Sun, 1996). Most pics are from the early to mid-60s, but there are nice pics from the 50s in a few cases. There are also a few pics of MOW equipment made from older heavyweights that may be of some use.

Jackson Thode also wrote a valuable book, "A Century of Passenger Trains ...And then Some" (Rocky Mountain RR Club, 1972, Rev. 2001). While many of the pics are less than optimal, there's a lot of useful info in it.

Posted by GN goat kid on Sunday, September 17, 2017 12:35 PM

Hello,

I'm trying to find information about D&RGW heavyweight passenger cars (including car details and paint schemes) in the transition era. Does anyone have good references or publications?

Thanks,

GH goat kid
