I have begun work on painting and assembling an AMB ACL M-3 wood caboose for a friend of mine. Before I get too far along I'd like to detail the interior - e.g. floor boards, paneling, stove, benches, etc.Does anyone have any info on where I can get interior photos or specs of a typical M-3 caboose operating in the 50s/early 60s? I've tried googling, as well as the ACL-SAL-SCLModeler Yahoo Group but with no success so far.
The floor boards and paneling widths would be a good, minimal starting point. (My guess is either 1 x 3s or 1 x 4s for the floor boards would work.) I'd also like to determine if the paneling ran horizontally or vertical? I've seen both from my searches on the internet.Any and all help is appreciated. Many thanks ahead of time...Tom

The historical society may have the info but most HS's are volunteers so it might take quite some time before they could or would answer you.
I think I remember an article on the M-3 many years ago in Mainline Modeler magazine. I don't have an index but maybe someone does.

Are single back issues only available in hard copy? While I know there's the 75-year collection on DVD, digital copies of single issues would be pretty handy if they were available.

Well you could always subscribe to the archive, you can print articles from there, and then cancel the subscription when you are done gathering what material you need..... For the price of a single issue you could probably subscribe for a coupel fo months.

I think you are confusing magazines. The referenced article was in Model Railroading, not Model Railroader. They are two different publications. Not sure if the former is still around.

Used to be the place to go to view a number of defunct magazines including Model Railroading. Unfortunately the site had a major crash several years ago and much of the magazine content was lost. Some mags complete, some partial and others gone.

Didn't these cabooses get repainted following the ACL/SCL merger in 1967?
I've been buying back issues of magazines from railpub.com for years, picking up magazines to fill out my collections and ones with articles for building things I might want to build--if I live long enough and the creek don't rise.
There's website, of course, or you can order by mail, plus he sends out lists every once in a while. Fascinating, especially if you want to build a library of railroad oriented books.
