Been looking around on getting the decals done. I have the infomations for the lettering and numbers and have orginal decals from the company of the herald they used. You can't tell it in the pictures but the heralds also have red and yellow. 90% of the lettering and numbers on there locomotives and cars is white.

And then there's all the special lettering related to its special purpose. and there's whether to do the stripes with decals or paint. Should be fun! Ed

Use anyone of the good graphics programs with a front end extraction filter. Extract the parts that you want and save it to a file. Print it on decal paper after setting your printer to the highest printing quality and photo paper settings. I do it all the time and it works fine.

I see a lot of white, both in the "herald" and in the lettering. I hear that's kind of difficult. How do you handle that?
Rounding out the choices would be a Proto 2000 8000 gallon car. Very similar to the Intermountain, but not the same.
So many choices........
I am also reminded of the old Varney plastic tank car model, with a dome height sort of midway between the Athearn and Red Caboose. The old Varney cars have been offered by others (including LifeLike) over the years, often at very cheap prices. The Tichy 4025 large(r) 60" dome tank car would also seem very close.

I suspect the Athearn is way too big.
The Red Caboose looks a little big, and it's welded. Which the prototype isn't.
I think an Intermountain 8000 gallon tank car would be closer. One thing, though, is that what I'll call the side sill doesn't match. Perhaps putting the Intermountain tank on the Red Caboose frame???
I would start with an Athearn tank car kit (undecorated). It's got the right brake wheel. Rivet detail looks good. The dome is too short.
Red Caboose (below) makes a good tank car also. Has correct dome.
Looking for any information on this car. The car is a scale test car owned by Southeast Coal company that operating between Hazard, KY and Irvine, KY. I think it is a 10,000 tank car, but the dome looks larger then normal. I'm looking to model this car in HO scale so what manufacture would have a close match. Thanks for any help.
