history of a specific locomotive
Posted by tommy2tap on Sunday, March 26, 2017 6:04 PM

in my travels this weekend i had the opertunity to get pictures of some GP9s. pictures include the build plates mounted to the control stand inside the cab. how can i use this information to find out the history of theese locomotives.

what i know so far is both are relettered as GOMX railroad. both were built in 1959 and are both GP9 with 1750 HP. one is number 906 the other is 667. one has traces of NW lettering on it. there was a third that i can only assume was also built in 59 with the same HP rating and it is numbered as GOmx 859 and is visibly marked as H&B being the previous operator

just for fun i would like to track down their history as in previous operators and dates and places they ran. the pictures of the build plates have serial number and model number but these have been little help as i really dont know what im looking at because ive never done prototype research

thanks for any help in advance guys

Tommy, here is what I did. I Googled  photo GOMX 906, then selected rrpicturearchives.net. It brought up the photo page of this locomotive and up at the top of the page it list all the other railroads this locomotive served on and build date information. Clicking on that railroad will take you to another list of photos of that locomotive while in service with that railroad if any are available. Try that and I think you will find what you are looking for.

Gidday Tommy, like Ralph, I also used Google, but as you mentioned the serial numbers, came up with this page….

If you want to know everything about a specific locomotives history join the Yaho loconotes forum group.  There are members who have databases on just about every engine ever built.
