UP passenger train sighting question
Posted by crashjr on Thursday, February 9, 2017 7:52 PM

I was standing outside work yesterday in College Station,TX, trying to get a good cell signal and saw a UP diesel pulling UP passenger cars, are they getting them ready to use with a steam engine sometime soon or are they just moving them?

If they getting them ready for steam run, is there a way to find out when and where it will be?

I don't know if anybody here would know but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

They use them also for business.  I saw a non-railfan UP passenger train go through Niles Canyon (east of Niles, CA) some years ago.

Probably the empty equipment returning back to Omaha after being used in Houston for the Superbowl.  The train was sent down there to be a static facility to entertain customers.  Has nothing to do with the steam train.

Lots of information here, straight from the Union Pacific, including backgrounds of the cars and additional historical information.

Click on "Historical Equipment Still In Use" there's even floor plans there!
