Ed:
The links to the paint schemes and the "total" UP information were fabulous........able to pick up a lot from it...........never really explored a website like Utah Rails, since my interest and layout abuilding will be a cross between LIRR/PRR New York and maybe(??) Chicago, so UP is a small player in the thing, but have so many cars, wanted one floating around for the CHALLENGER in the pool.
Thanks again
Doug
Doug,
I also found this:
http://utahrails.net/pass/pass-paint.php
I think you will find it rewarding reading. I am frequently surprised by just how much UP information is on this site. Here's the lead page for the UP info:
http://utahrails.net/up/uprr-index.php
Utah rails also has a preceding "general" home page that has a lot of info of general interest. Well, MY general interest, anyway.
Ed
Thanks for the information..............I wasn't sure about the two tone grey, though I have seen pictures of heavyweight cars with silver Challenger script in that scheme, and a picture of UP Pacific Forum (Budd 10r-6br) in two tone grey, though not assigned to the Challenger
From Patrick C. Dorin's "The Challenger":
Pullman green
I don't believe the cars were ever in to two-tone grey scheme.
Does anyone know what a good paint match would be for the "green" used on the war era new coaches (5300 series) they had assigned to the CHALLENGER??
Was it dark like C&NW green, or an olive shade (like US Army) ????
Not interested in the fact the cars were previously or sim ultaneously light/dark grey with silver striping..........just the green era.
Tnak you for your assistance
