Charter Manufacturing has a nice booklet that describes the cars and their history - I assume it is given to interested guests. Fortunately a copy is online:

Do you have the August 2016 issue of MR? If so on page 52 is an article "Railfanning the Colorado Rockies" by Dave Rickaby, about the large HOn3 layout of John Mellowes. The layout spreads across five rooms in his home. It is a beautiful layout. Anyway the article's little biography of John Mellowes mentions that he is a member of the American Association of Private Car Owners and that he owns four full sized restored passenger cars. Imperial Leaf and Golden Moon are two of them. The cars are usually to be seen parked on a special siding at the Milwaukee Amtrak depot, and are easily photographed.
John Mellowes is chairman emeritus of Charter Manufacturing.

The type of car is important to the restoration. Interesting facts on buying/maintaining a car here
$20K a year to store and maintain. I better win the big lottery.

BigDaddy Did you know you need bullet proof glass?
Did you know you need bullet proof glass?
My wife and I were on early Amtrak when "something" broke the window next to her and sprayed glass bits.

If you are in the market to buy, charter or dream, there is the American Association of Private Rail Car Owners
Their magazine Private Varnish comes out now and then 4 times a year.
They are owned by Charter Manufacturing and Steel. It's not clear that they are rented to the public. I'm not sure I can post the actual pics here but this is them.

I met someone who bought a railcar because the wife didn't like to fly. It took 2 years to make it road worthy. Did you know you need bullet proof glass?
They were going to have Ralph Lauren decorate it so obviously money was no object. They did not invite me on the shake down cruise
I live near Petersburg va... and saw these two old time, im guessing, former heavy weight rail cars, golden moon and imperial leaf were on the side of the two cars...
anyone know anything able them?
