question on ps-2 2003 cf covered hopper
Posted by fourt on Friday, September 2, 2016 1:05 AM

I have a question on the ps-2 2003 cf hopper cars. The athearn/roundhouse ones the end slopes angle down toward the outlet bays, yet other ones like kadee, atlas etc dont have the slope like that but are sqaure with the side boby. which is correct? or both? or early/late style?

Can i link pictures from those sites to show better what i mean?

Linking a photo is fine. If you post a copyrighted photo here it is not within copyright laws.

So I can send you to a site that has a photo of a covered hopper like this:

but I can not download that photo and post it here. I can use that photo for personal use, however.

Good Luck, Ed

Both body styles are 'correct', just different production runs.   You will need to match your prototype photo to the correct model.

The Athearn/Roundhouse car is ancient tooling that in many respects only vaguely represents a PS 2003.  I don't think the roof hatch arrangement or ends/slope sheets are truly accurate for any of the prototypes.

Thanks for the info.  What i am planning on doing is scratch building some of them using the model as a template. Also have found some railroad drawing? online with the sizing etc on it, which will help. Using that is when i noticed the differnce in the ends.
