Thanks Michael...
I have found the pdf versions...as for progress...I still have to bring myself to butcher 3 perfectly good models...I think I will focus more on the layout for a bit. At least I have all the info I need in one spot now...
This is the link for any other interested modellers...

We're all here because we're not all there...
Good luck with the project, let us know how it works out. Rail Model Journal is available online in PDF format, you might be able to find your missing issue that way.I chickened out and bought the Overland brass undecorated one around 1993 or so. Looks fine and runs smoothly, but it's so light it can hardly get out of its own way. On the other hand there's enough empty space inside for as much lead as I want to stuff in there.
Painting it still frightens me a bit, though.

Well I got a few hours to sneak down to the club this arvo...A few minutes snooping around the club library and I found that great article in one of the 1975 RMC mags. cheers for the lead Bundy74.
I was unlucky with the Journal though... the issues that had been donated stopped at 2000. But the RMC article was a great find. Cheers
Here are the pages for anyone else that may wish to have a crack at the kitbash.
Didn realise it won the RMC/Dremel Kitbash Award...
Happy modelling...
Nice logo, by the way. Much better than the idiotic new on e that NMRA uses.
Remember: In South Carolina, North is southeast of Due West... HIOAg /Bill
Thanks for the awesome info Bundy74...
I will have alook through the club library to see what they have on the shelf...
I have 2 Athearn SW7s and a calf but my GP9 is a Proto 2000 and I dont wish to chop that up...I might go dig around my local second hand model shop to see if they have any suiters for the surgery.
I think the GP35 would be a better chassis but the fuel tank will need to be cut down and suitable air tanks fitted. I should be able to get most of the parts second hand...Ebay alway has bargains too.
There was an article in RMC in 1975 about building one from Athearn Sw7s and a GP9, and an article in 2003 or so in Railmodel Journal about building one also using Athearn SW7s and a GP35.
As you alluded to, NW2 hoods would be more proper for the long hood. The short hood can be made from the extension on the Athearn SW7 calf. You will also need 2 cabs to get the correct windows on the front and back.
Modeling whatever I can make out of that stash of kits that takes up half my apartment's spare bedroom.
Thanks...I have found some info on this particular diesel...Overland Models does do a brass kit for a hefty part of my savings...not an avenue I wish to take.
The design is said to be a NW2 with an extra hood to house steam generators. Later on in life they had them removed and replaced with extra fuel storage. I will have a search for kitbash articles on the NW5.
Here is the site I found the brass model on...
Chris,
If I am wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me. I been in the hobby for almost 60 years and I don't remember ever seeing a model of this engine. Perhaps one was built in brass. This is a kitbashing project. If you want one, you will have to build it yourself. If you tacked this project, keep us updated. Good luck.
Here is the unit in its prime back in the 40s before BN merged and repainted it...
Gday guys...n galz
I have been interested in this particular engine purchased by the OPR. It is said to be quite a rare find...one in 3 was the quote.
I am looking for a model retailer that may have a HO scale running locomotive of this particular engine.
Thanks in advance for any information that you may share...Below are some snaps of the prototype I wish to capture.
