I was looking at the pictures suggested from the rrpicturearchives site and one that I had from locophotos of BN 2212 which is the engine I wish to model. I found two things rather interesting in those photos.
When did BN add the beacon and the sunshades to this unit? The picture from rrpicturesarchives which is from 1971 (still in Great Northern paint with BN sublettering) shows no beacon or sunshades. However the locophotos image from 1980 shows a beacon and sunshades. Any ideas as to when these upgrades were made? As usual, any assistance that the forums can provide would be most welcomed.
I got looking into those referenced magazines and found a suprise as well. The June issue has a project talking about a BN SDP40. (I also working on one of those as BN 1976 which I maybe can get some ideas from as well.)
I will put that on my to do list as well.
I would suggest getting the May, June and July 1989 Issues of Mainline Modeler Magazine, they had a three part seires on the GP30 with all the different versions including drawings and detailed photogrphs.

Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
I took the opportunity to bookmark the entire page of BN GP30s. Other than that I haven't had a chance to go through the pictures. Maybe I will have a chance this weekend to go through them. Thank you for your assistance. (I had forgotten about that particular site, even though I have that one in my bookmarks.)
I just saw an overhead photo of BN GP30 #2200 on RailRoad Pictures archives.

On that website look for GP30s and then they are alphbetized by road number. When you look at the list most of the lines will say what railroad they belonged to before BN had them.
I didn't look at all the photos but there will probably be some more overhead shots.
Got another one for my forum friends: Does anyone know where I might find an overhead (roof) shot of a BN (ex-GN) GP30? I am trying to detail the roof of a Bev-Bel (Bachmann) shell. Unfortunately, the only pics I have been able to find are from an angle that shows the details but doesn't show the proper position. (I have found a image of a GP39 [rebuilt from the GP30] but it seems that the antenna is further back than on the GP30 images I have seen.) As usual, thank you for any assistance the forums can provide.
