The sections of the maps that I browsed had lots of interesting data and was accurate as far as I could tell, even showing a 1 mile branch in my old neighborhood that had been abandoned in 1961.
With the maps open in one tab and Google Earth in another it makes for a very interesting, and time consuming, study.

OpenRailwayMap is a website enabling you to check the track plan of your favourite prototype location.
While not yet 100% accurate, it is a great resource for model railroader, following a prototype closely.
