Another cornerstone ice house question
Posted by Blind Bruce on Sunday, November 1, 2015 11:33 AM

The ice shed is assembled and the platforms are almost finished as well. But, I notice no means of attaching the shed to the platform. So.... how did the ice get from the shed to the platform?

Generally a chute. Doesn't need much of an angle.

If I recall correctly (been a while since I built mine) the platform is on a separate base, and you simply situate the platform so that it sits alongside of the tall doors.  Once you scenic the area around it with some ground cover, things will stay in position.
If you want it physically attached to the icehouse, you can add some blocking between the building and the platform or its supports using Evergreen strip styrene.
To get the ice from the shed to the platform, it was simply slid out the door and, if necessary, placed on the chain conveyor moulded into the floor of the platform.

There was an in-depth article on icehouses in RMC, but I can't recall the particular issue(s).  There are moveable "stages" inside the icehouse which serve to bring the ice blocks, depending on the height of the stored ice, either up or down to the level of the platform doors.
