Green VIA P42's

Out of the GE P42's owned by VIA Rail, a total of 21, most of them were painted with blue on the top and along the bottom and yellow turning to grey on the sides. A few of them, maybe 5, were painted with green instead of blue. Why is it then, that Kato, Overland, etc.'s models bore the green? Only Athearn has it in the blue. Likewise, why are so many drawings showing the paint scheme done in the green? I live along the P.Q.city-Windsor corridor, I've seen almost every P42, and I have yet to see a green one.

Take a look on viatrain.net. They have pictuires of all the P42's, and they sure don't look green to me!

I'm sorry, but I can't agree. I also have the Athearn RTR model, #912, and unless I'm going colourblind, it is definitely blue! Every P42 I've seen follows that, and I have pictures I've taken of them in Johnstown, ON, about 20km east of Brockville, at milepost 110. I don't have a digital camera or a scanner, so I can't post them here, but they are all blue! I know it's not the same shade of the LRC blue, but it is blue all the same. I recently visited a Hobby shop in Bracebridge, where I was given an explanation. I was shown two pictures of P42's, one in dark blue and one in green, very distinctly different and I was informed that they were two different paint schemes VIA originally used. I have talked to several other VIA enthusiasts who have told me the same thing.

I'd like to redirect you one more time to viatrain.net. Go to the VIA photos, on the 900-920 series and go on #904. The picture on the left quite clearly shows it in green, but the photo on the right is quite clearly blue. I do agree, indeed, that at least some of them were green to begin with, but as far as I know they have, like #904, been repainted.

By the way, after going to the site you posted, I agree that that is the colour that I have seen them, and that is not what I call green. Maybe an aqua blue, but still blue. Check this out- http://www.viatrain.net/904LT.jpg. This is what I call green.

Why is it that all of a sudden I can only see my posts on here? What happened to the other replies that were here?
