Wabash2800:
Thanks for the lead on V&T #22. The Nevada State Railroad Museum has lots of information about #22. Actually, I had seen several photos and videos of the wonderful restoration, but pictures of the cab interior were almost non existant. That was until I contacted Madison Kirkman who is the President of the McKeen Motor Car Company Historical Society. He provided me with several shots of the cab interior, certainly enough to allow me to model it 'well enough' in HO scale. I was also flattered by his request for me to send him photos of the McKeen model when it is finished. He wants to include a gallery of McKeen models on the website.
Thanks again
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
I don't know how good of a reference it would be, but the Nevada State Railroad Museum has restored Mckeen, Virginia & Truckee No. 22 to operating condition. There are interior color photos on the Net. Yes, there is a V&T steam loco with that number also. Just type in "Virginia & Truckee" McKeen car interior and you should come up with interior photos. I can't say how authentic the restoration is, however, but the windows and the rounded interior are certainly fabulous! I believe this car was a rusted hulk with no trucks when the museum first received it.
I had sent a message to the McKeen Motor Car Company Historical Society asking if they had any pictures of the Cab interior. Madison Kirkman, who is the President of the society, sent me some very informative photos, some of which I had not seen before. I had already installed some of the cab interior details and Madison's pictures suggested that most of my installation was reasonably acceptable given the 'good enough' rule. I will change a few things to make them closer to the prototype.
I have posted this message on a couple of other threads so I apologise if you are reading a duplication.

It would be fun to wire that cockpit with LEDs and fibre optics, especially in HO!

If Engine fails to start......repeat steps....one (1) through two-fifty (250)......those seats don't look too comfortable either!

Seriously, thank you for the links. I had seen a few diagrams of the various floor plans but I don't recall seeing anything with detailed labelling. The picture of the engineer's control stand is great. I had seen the stand in another picture but I didn't realize what it was. I guess I was expecting something more 'grand'. Not sure why since a lot of diesel locomotives have similar controls. I had also seen a view looking out the front of the Virginia and Truckee #22 motor car which showed a part of the compressor and related plumbing. I didn't understand what the parts were at the time.
Now I can proceed with the cab interior.
I am very grateful for your assistance.

Dave if you can't find a suitable photo to use as a guide, just use this as a stand in, it's close enough.

Hi everyone:
For my HO McKeen Motor Car project I have been able to find a bunch of photos of exteriors and some pictures of the passenger compartment, but other than the engine I haven't found any of the cab interior and controls. Has anyone ever seen a photo of the driver's position?
Alternately, can anyone show me pictures of any sort of gas powered trolley or industrial locomotive controls from the early 1900s?
I'm going to try to contact the McKeen car association and the folks who have restored #22.
Thanks
