An ORER from that time frame would tell you for certain.

And if you Google CNW and the car number, you'll find a couple of pics, if you want to weather it to fit your era.  It doesn't say if the car is still in service, but as Jim said above, there's a good chance it is.

  The prototype(C&NW) was merged into the UP in April of 1995.  Those 50' insulated box cars were probably built in the mid 70's, per the Walthers listing.  There are on right on the line for either 40 year or 50 year cars, and may still be in service.  The cars were owned by Fruit Growers Express(FGEX) and leased to the C&NW.  You are good to go with your era, and most likely were used in canned goods service.  CN(WC) cars still are used in canned goods service on mid-Wisconsin.

I bought one of those new Walthers 50ft Insulated Boxcars that were based of the CNW's exNW Cars. Are those cars still active these days? I assume if they are they have been repainted, but I wouldn't know.

 

 

(My railroad is set in the 89-02 period so that shouldn't be a issue. I am more curious of there current status)
