Any Pennsy fans/modelers

Does anyone know of photos of the Shire Oaks PRR roundhouse?

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

See my thread about the Barriger library... you would have to wade through lots of photos but I bet you would find it. I found Mingo Jct. E. Conway and Crestline with out even trying.

When I have time I'll look through my PRRTHS Keystones and see if I can find anything...

Fascinating site Ed. Found a Monongahela division album, but it wasn't in there. Perhaps it would be in the lewis collection link. Thanks for your searching as well in your keystones. I have a couple, and couldn't even find a mention of southwestern pa.

Not much, but maybe with a magnifying glass you can make out something...

Glad it helped, it's only three distant shots but its a start.

Seeing that roundhouse reminds me of the time in 1997 when a friend and I went on an investigation mission in the Ohio Valley and stopped by Mingo Junction for a look see. In those pre 911 days sometimes you could get out and walk around. We were in a weed filled field but I kept seeing concrete under my feet. Pretty soon I was on a section that had paver tiles and I could make out a circle maybe six feet across. It dawned on me that I was in a locker room and that was one of those circular wash basins. I could make out where toilets and other wash stands were.

After a little more exploring I saw that the concrete I was walking on had a distinctive shape. Sure enough, I could see rails embedded in the floor and even an area where there was a drop pit that had been filled in!

Here I was standing in the Pennsy roundhouse. Now I know how the great archaeologists must feel. I still have a brick that I found that has Conrail Blue painted over Penn-Central Green on it. I'll have to see if I can find some photos of that day.

Take care, Ed

And I found one...

I believe looking south, toward the turntable.

Probably around 1997.

Any Pennsy fans/modelers?

If there aren't, the manufacturers are sure over estimating the interest in the Pennsy!!

I'm a Pennsy fan! I don't know how close Crestline is to Shire Oaks, but here is a link to drawings of Crestline's roundhouse: http://crestlineprr.com/prrdrawings.html
