GP40-2 Wheels
Posted by Hawkeye251 on Thursday, October 28, 2004 10:28 PM
I'm modeling a GP40-2 in Proto-87 starting with an Athearn model. My prototype never owned any GP40-2's (doesn't exist anymore either) so this is essentially a "what-if" project. Therefore, I don't have much in the way of real data to use in building my model. I'd like to replace the wheels with Northwest Shortline replacements, however I'm unsure which size (40" or 42") is most appropriate. If anyone has any suggestions I'd like to hear them (even if your suggestion is just: "42 inch wheels look better" or vice versa :-)

The 40" wheels are standard on that particular Geep.

Hawkeye,
If you haven't already done so, sort through the citations found through this keyword search in the Index of Magazines:

You'll find at least one plan, and several liveries, since you didn't state what paint scheme you plan to use.

40" were standard on the GP40-2, 42" optional from EMD.....so which did your railroad select?
