I took this photo yesterday....

and I'm wondering when General Electric came out with the D9-40CW?

Dash 9's started appearing in the early to mid 90's

The "D" in D9-40CW stands for Dash. NS seems to use that nomenclature for their Dash-8's as well. The first production Dash-9's came out in late 1993.

And the CW stands for catfish whiskers! Other than the previous comment I have no strong feelings about NS motive power one way or the other.

CW really means C= 6 wheel trucks, W= wide cab
so a D8-40B would be 4 wheels a truck, and standard cab equipped!
